5.0L (1979-1995) MustangTechnical discussions on 5.0 Liter Mustangs within. This does not include the 5.0 from the 2011 Mustang GT. That information is in the 2005-1011 section.
I have also heard that stock for stock the 86's were about the fastest except for the 93 cobra in the fox bodies. Don't know for a fact though. I know that mine feels pretty strong for a stock car.
That may be true...I've heard that they had a stronger low end, even though they make less torque on paper. Also, on paper, the 89-93 foxes are the same. The 87 and 88s had S/D fuel management, and a slightly different camshaft than the later foxes--except for the Cali 88s, which had MAF and that slightly different camshaft.
I think the main reason 87-93 foxes are a bit faster than the 94-98s is the weight issue. What was the torque on the fox vs the 94-98? wasnt the fox a bit higher on torque? I dont think 89 foxs r gonna be any faster than 90-93s though...
my friend owns an 89GT and he says it will beat all years up to the PI head stangs. is that true? all stock vs. stock
Since I've been following Mustangs religiously since 1982, it seem the consensus over the years is that the speed density '87's(and '88 49 state cars) are the fastest Fox body 5.0L in stock form. Some might say a speed density notch sedan might be as fast as a P.I. New Edge(high 13's/low 14's). I vividly recall Car & Driver running an LX notch against an L89(350 V-8) Iroc-Z in 1986 and it outran the Chevy in the 1/4 mile(a few tenths, I believe) and that Iroc-Z has similar power/weight numbers as a New Edge GT. Just what I recall
