drag slicks....
ok, I recently went to this auction of a guy who used to own a nascar team. Andy Petree, you heard of him? Well, my dad got alot of slicks and rims to boot for real cheap. I mean like prolly 130 tires and 80 with rims. They are sized 28x11.50 15, and 26x10.50 15. question is, if I mounted them on a mustang rim, the 26x10.50s, would the compound be good for drag racing? these are brand new tires, most of them. the others are test tires. few laps on em I was told. Any body know about Nascar tire compounds? I figure if they'll hold a 850 HP car on the curves of a superspeedway at 170+, then they would prolly get hot enough to stick at the strip. what you guys think?

RE: drag slicks....
The problem with asphalt racing tires is they have a very stiff side wall and hard compound. A drag slick has a soft side wall and soft rubber compound. The soft side wall of a drag slick absorbs the shock load of a launch so you dont spin. The asphalt tires with the stiff side wall have no give to them to absorb the shock.
It wont hurt to give them a try. They may be better than standard radial tires. They would be exellent for carving turns with them on all four corners.

whats the width of a stock fow body 15" wheel. talking about the 10 hole rims or the turbine style? you think the 26x10.50 will fit ok? I would like to use them instead of my weld wheels since they are on the car for street driving, and dont have the $ for 2 new ones for just slicks.

26x10.5 need to be mounted on a 8 inch rim or it will bubble out really bad.
