Default How to fix tach

My tach is stuck at about 4 grand. What is it that makes the tach work? How can I fix it? I stopped working then started again and then stopped. It is kind of annoying me so I would like to fix it.

the tach is actually controlled by the ignition module, reading off the distributor. unless the distributor is messed, i'd check the module. it has an output wire that puts out incremental voltages that control the tach.

It will be the TFI module mounted cross-ways on the distrib. It will be black or gray, and flat, with a six-wire plug.you need a special socket to remove the 2 little screws that hold it on the distrib.
