Well my car i find out after i bought it use to be a four banger. So im just tryingg to find out what my gears are in the rear end. i seem to be revving really high at low MPH, my gas mileage sucks, as well as my 1/4 mile times. People have recommended that i find out what gears are in it. if im noy mistaken isnt the rearend in the 4 bangers 7.5?? if so wouldnt the gears be way off from what a 5.0 is supposed to be? also how would i check the tranny as well or are the trannys the same between the 4 and 8 cyl??? thanks alot guys any help will be great. thanks

yes, the 4 cylinders had 7.5 rear ends and the 5.0s have 8.8s. There should be a tag on your differential that says what gears came stock (if yours havent been changed out), if not there are a couple of old threads around here that describe how to find out what gears you have so just do a search and you should be able to find how. Basically, you lift both the rear tires off the ground and spin them. Count how many times the driveshaft spins around per one tire rotation. If the driveshaft spins about 2 and 3/4 turns, then you have 2.73s..and so on...and yeah i believe the 4 cylinders and 5.0s have the same trannys.

You're right on pretty much everything Neg, but 5.0s and 4 Cyl did not have the same transmissions. The 5 speed from a 4 cyl is weaker and I think it has a different input shaft.
