Speedo Reading

Speedo Reading
I have a 1991 Mustamg Gt and when i am driving and i hit 60MPH the Speedo flings to 120MPH and flickers around there until i come to a stop. as it is at 120 i can here it "clicking". however if i stay on the throttle it is fine. to me this doesnt make sense because the speedometer is magneticly operated. Has anyone else encountered this problem? and if so what can i do about it?

RE: Speedo Reading
well... if you think about it, the gear at the end of the cable has set tolerances, and after a while, the plastic wears down, thus creating larger gaps in the teeth, and worn down edges. Thus, high speed spinning. the faster the internals of the tranny are moving, the straighter in-line they are going to be, even if they only straighten out .0500 /inch, thats enough to make a speedo gear miss the teeth when its worn down.
