How is speedo off??

How is speedo off??
So I put another 302 in my car. I left the tranny in and left everything connected to it(including speedo gear) I also removed the dash to replace the heater core. Again, I didnt disconnect the speedo or any of the wireharnesses to the main gauge cluster, I just unscrewed the dash and laid the passenger side of it down on the seat. Anyway, the speedo is now 8mph slow when it was dead on before... I havent changed tires or gears or anything. Can anyone tell me how this is possible?
