As long as its a 65+ 289 block you should be good. If I remember right 1964 and previous had a different bellhousing bolt pattern and not the regular windsor bolt pattern. The 289's cylinder walls are slightly shorter then a 302's about 5/16's of an inch. The good thing about 289 blocks is they are like most old 302 blocks, larger main caps and thicker cylinder walls. There about the same strength as a sportsman block.

the 289 is a 4.7L and its almost an indestructible engine, i had one in a 1967 mustang coupe, you could do burnouts and doughnuts all day and eat up tires and transmissions but that engine has so much punch, all i had on it was long tube headers, edelbrock intake and a 600 cfm carb. man that thing was fast

a 289 is a great motor like other people postedk my neighbor had one that was rebuilt back in the 70's it was ran extremely hard and has lasted till last year, when it got soldand went to another guy for a comet, but im sure it still runs, put a good cam in it,a set of heads, and a 600cfm carb a set of 4.30s and you will have so much torgue u will get a nosebleed or your chevy friend lol

my buddy has a 66 coupe w/ a 289 and he smoked me. claims he doesnt know whats done to it because his dad bought the car for him. i also rebuilt a 289 at school w/ an edelbrock intake and a holley 4barrel. but havent gotten the chance to start it yet. and i think it would be a 4.9Liter?

no, it's a 4.7 liter. if you want to get technical. the ford 302 is actualy a 4.9liter.
I think its technically a 4.96 or 4.97L [8D]
