Default quick cam question

ok i have a dyno program that i have been messing around with and i built a motor on there and i intially had it set up with a big cam.

but heres my question i toying around with it and put a smaller cam in the mix with the rest of the set up and the smaller cam actually made more horsepower how is that?

Do you guys really believe that just buy using larger cam specs, you'll always make more power?

no i was wanting a more agressive cam than what was in my old motor. and the cams applied to how the heads flowed along with the intake. so pretty much everthing was to be matching parts. isn't that how ur suppose to build motors that make a lot of horsepower?

well for a given air flow on a head, bigger isnt allways better..a bigger cam lowers ya compression as each valve stays open longer...thats why a huge cam with a 8-9.1 comp is a lil iffy...sometimes it works...or putin a cam in that the rpm range is 1800-5200 and a vic jr intake is poinless..seein as the vic jr STARTS makin power at 3500..you are lose lots of power on ya power band rang on cam..putin a huge cam in a motor with stock heads isnt good cuz thecam wants more air and the heads dont give it..i see alotta guys on here with huge cams and huge intakes and mismatched parts... best policy is go with a proven combo, not whatya freinds have but a proven 1..like a copy cay build in a magazine or otheer..
