Default T-5 Rebuild Question

I have a friend who works at a dealership service department. His work is legitimate. He said he could rebuild my t-5 for me, but since he has never done this particular tranny, he would need a rebuild manual. I have a good manual, and the only thing from stopping me from rebuilding it myself is experience, and not having the necessary tools.

I would like to save some cash, and just pay my friend "Buddy" money for this, plus supplies. So, what do I need to provide him in order for him to get started? I have seen various rebuild kits on eBay, some with and without the syncros.

I have two T-5s. One in my car that has 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears going bad. The other has been said to just have 5th gear bad. I may rebuild both, but in the meantime, any recommendations on which to rebuild first? Should I buy the syncros separately, once I determine which one to rebuild? I am afraid to just get the syncros necessary to fix the latter tranny, and then find out the others are bad too. Hoping for a smooth 1 day rebuild, in order to get it back into the stang.

Advice greatly needed.

Thanks

tear into it first. it may not be as bad as you think. you can get whatever parts you need individually

you guys are funny... and if you friend has ever built a tranny before he WON'T need the manual... you better off fixing all the syncros' while it's apart it's HIGHLY reconmended by just about every one. you can get a full syncro kit for 200 from D&D performance (make great parts) i use them on all my tranny rebuilds (mine, and my customers) the T-5 is one of the easiest tranny's to rebuild the only thing you need it a roll pin punch, a press is recommended but you can sure 2 big prybars to get it apart, and the sockets to get the case apart, i takes me 45 min. for tear down and about an hour to rebuild it if i work slow and take breaks, if you can rebuild one at the track in 45 min. it has to be an easy tranny right???? make usre he sets the backlash right if not you'll be in MUCH worse shape than you are now
