Default question about 1 3/4 in headers

my friend is putting 1 3/4 inch long tubes on his stock 85 gt, is he going to lose torque cause theyre so big or what happens? ive heard thats too big for a 302. and a stock one at that.

Yea they are bi for a stock 302. What happens is that the torque peak and the HP peak till be pushed up in the rpm range as well as a a loss of tq. Tell him the reason that theya re not right, if he does not listen then tellhim he's a dumbass.

+1 THERE BIG,1 1/2 ARE BEST,AND 1 5/8 ARE OK..KINDA all depends on rest of exhaust...but usually 1 3/4 are big..i have 1 3/4 on mine and i have around 400 hp and around 500 on juice

Tell him if he wants long tubes just go with 1 5/8 longtubes. They can handle a ton more power than his block could ever put out. 1 3/4 is just way too big. Is this a street car? Or a drag only car.

yea, obviously he has the bigger is better ego, tell him a 90mm MAF with 60mm TB will work wonders as well...as well as 20* base timing! lol, no he's gonna move the torque and hp curve way up...
