What year explorers have the 5.0 HO? Is it the exact same as the 5.0 HO for the mustangs? or are there some parts that would benifit my stock 5.0. Intake manifold or heads or anything?

yes the intake has the same lower as cobra and gt-40 and you can use the upper also.there is a air temp. sensor that they moved from the intake to the air box were it sould be I think they put it out there I no its not in the lower intake any more.but that is no biggie.and the heads are GT-40P heads.dont forget the p heads use a diff. header also due to where they put the spark plugs.I am also not sure about the EGR stuff I think they changed some of that stuff also to but I do know the stuff bolts and works on your car.and will help you.

Ok let me help some people here.. 97 1/2 and up was GT40P heads 97 and down used reg GT40 heads same as Cobra motors. Also THEY ARE NOT H.O. Motors. I hope i helped. So if you find any Explorer in the junk yard with a 5.0 its gonna have some kind of GT 40 head so snag it up , but dont let the guy know why you want the heads the like to crank up the cost. Also dont call them and ask if the have them with 5.0s cause they all get confused and say no they all cam ewith 4.0 s.. So best thing to do is call and ask if they have any Explorers at all and if the do just go look for urself. On the head youll see the 3 to 4 grooves on the front of the head that how youll know its a GT40 head.you can purchase new ones out of mustang and fast ford mags for 300 bucks.Might save time ! I have the GT40P heads and they rock but the headers are a pain in the butt if you dont do ur homework so know for sure if you want the heads first.
