my 1988 has 2 02 sensors, one per bank, located just in front of where you were just welding, should be a bung that it screws into on each side. Try putting them back in, I'm sure without them you should be running extremely rich like someone said earlier...

how do you know the fuel smell is the exhaust? sure you don't have a tank leak? i do.

my car has a full mac system and it has a strong smell out the pipes
will burn ur eyes, my car runs great and gets what i think is really good gas mileage
for what it is , it has a 93 cobra w 5spd and will hit mid 20's on the highway

yeah the who smog pump has been disconnected, the other tub running into it has been disconnected to, all this was done by the previous owner i guess.
