Tranny: rebuid or replacE?

Tranny: rebuid or replacE?
My synchros are completely shot for third gear. I am wondering if I should have my t-5 rebuilt, or just replace it with something else? I would like to know how much it'd cost on average to get re-built. If I was going to replace it, what should I buy and how much would that cost? It is for my 91 LX hatch, 75K miles, full exhaust, future mods = intake parts for now, but after college probably a poweradder

If you're brave, the kit to rebuld it is about 250 bux . Its not that bad really. It's actually the blocker rings outside of your synchros that have gone bad. there's not that many pieces to the kit, but I found the hardest part was getting the shifter linkage to go into place after I had it all done, putting the top back on it.

depends on how bad it is, if its just the syncro and not the gear itself(part where the syncro connects w. 3rd when its put in gear) then id say get it rebuild(talk to 94gtcoupe), but if its bad enough where its prob the gear itself aswell, id prob just buy new or hit up www.astroperformance.com they sell rebuilt t5s for a good price.

if you guys look around here you'll find people that rebuild them...or they find you (in this case)and 600 is cheap for a local shop to do it... i was quoted 1100....
parts are $210 shipped if you don't need "hard parts"
labor $100 if you go threw me
shipping about 100-150 both ways
total: 410-460

Do you guys think it would be a good idea to pick one up from a junkyard for 100 bucks and put in a rebuild kit? So i can still drive my car but do a good job rebuilding the tranny? Anyone know where you can get a manual to rebuild the t5?

that would be a wise idea, but make sure the tranny you get is in working order that way you know none of the gears are harmed... and the ONLY place i by T-5 parts from is www.ddperformance.com
