87+ are the world class
86 ans lower are not world class (weaker)
there are a lot of different things between the 2 not just gear ratios
and if you want to get technical the 91(i believe)-95 are the strongest, borgwarner started useing a different "cast or alloy" for the gears... although it not usualy the gears that have problems it's the bearings or the case worpes under high torque levels causing the gears to bind and the tranny to grenade (literaly blow up)

I am not at any of my recerence material right now, but I am pretty sure it is the 89's and up that have the different gears. I would love to find the answere for sure, but I won't be near any of my books until like the 14th of Jan so I can't really argue this one. Although I want to.
