Default Engine advice?

I was thinking about starting work on building a 5.0 engine up, and when it's complete putting it in a car that had a good body. The problem is, I am basically a complete newbie when it comes to building engines. I have some experience with cars, but not too much. Would this be conceivable?

I was thinking maybe about going down to a junk yard and picking up a 5.0 out of an explorer, fox, etc and taking it apart and reassembling it a few times. The junk yard engine wouldn't be used inthe car at all, just for practice.Would this give me enough experience needed to be able to put a complete 5.0 engine together and then dump it in a car in about 1year or so? I have the money to buy the engine, tranny, car(roller most likely), etc, so money isn't a concern and I wouldn't need to get a loan.

Any advice is good, because I would really like to get started on it fairly soon if possible. Are there any good books that are just related to the 5.0 engine? I was thinking eventually about putting in a forged 306 or 331 with a Vortech S-Trim. Hopefully it would run properly.

Thanks. Someone else told me to buy that How to rebuild your small block ford engines book. I think I'll snag that for sure. May get the other one too just for the free shipping to though...

I think it's a good idea. Could be fun, if anything. Do yourself a favor and pick up a good shop manual, torque specs are important, and you'll know what the heck you're doing/how to fix it
