Holy crap thats bad
Just pulled the dash in my 1988 GT, almost wish I hadn't, looks like Mickey Mouse and his whole family were into the wiring big-time. I can post a pic if needed but suffice it to say, I'm going to need help straightening this **** out. Anyone got a schematic for what the wiring is supposed to be behind the dash?
If you have pictures that would help a lot too. Am changing over to a black interior and doing away with all the stupid guages dufus previous owner put in. For example, if you are not using a power adder, why have a boost guage? I can see having a larger tach but two shift lights? I found the following behind the dash, home elctrical style twist connectors, butt connectors, crimp-on, garbage bag ties in both plastic and paper varieties, most of the missing screws/nuts that I didn't have to pull because they were not there, two stereos, one stuffed on top of the other, I guess the old one broke so he crammed another in there...yee haw.
Planning to replace heater core/dryer while I'm there, speedo cable as well, and probably put in an aftermarket clutch quadrant. Someone want to recommend a brand the quadrant? Never done one of those but I heard it is unpleasant. Already have the engine/tranny/driveshaft out and being redone (engine had odd noises and low compression/oil pressure) tranny is t-5 with lots of miles. Any tranny gurus want to weigh in on what pieces in a t-5 need better quality then what comes in the standard rebuild kit? i.e retainers and such?
Sorry to write a mini-novel but lastly, anyone have a picture of a stone stock mustang, with the dashboard out? I know its an odd one to ask but he obviously pulled everything, and only put back 40% so stuff is all over and I don't know where it goes....
thanks guys Happy New Year!

RE: Holy crap thats bad
Ok here is a condensed version:
1. anyone got a schematic of behind the dash wiring or pictures showing a stock mustang there so I can re-assemble hopefully the right way.
2. someone recommend a setup for an aftermarket clutch quadrant, maybe clutch as well as I am replacing that as engine/tranny are out.
thanks

Ha ha ha ha ha. Funny stuff. I wondfer if the same guy that got into yous got into mine. Someone at some point tried to get my dash apart (missing bolts, not mounted securely) for what ever reason, suspect to replace heater core as it is still bypassed, and then they got in over their head and stopped.

are you sure one of the shift lights isnt a warning light? they look just life a shift light, but are for warnings for loss of oil pressure ect. i used to have one in my race car, people thought i had 2 shift lights.

I would buy a haynes and a chiltons manual for the wiring diagrams. They have helped me out a lot. I have a bbk quadrent kit, works great, the car came with a upr kit but it had two hooks and the cable would always pop off the first hook and leave me stranded.

I would go with a hogher alloy gear set for the T-5, hopefully its a WC(they run ATF ONLY), ull be in better luck. I have a double hooked quadrant and it works fine, alos have a Ram heavy duty ram and its holds great.
As for the wiring good luck i dont know what to tell ya, +1 on the get a new harness
