I noticed it looks it would have lights to warn me of low gas, oilect. but it doesnt have anything behind it, its like a dummy warning panel(non-functional) does anyone have any idea why its there? My car is an 89 LX, maybe it only works on the GT's

There should be a white bulb housing behind that lens that houses 4 small bulbs. On the back of the white housing there is a circuit board plastic film that should connect up to the instrument cluster just below the bottom right connection (assuming you are looking at the housing from the front). You are correct in that it gives you certain warnings, such as low gas. I have a GT and am not sure if that was not included in the LX model, but I would imagine it was.

 

Mine works just fine... Low gas, low coolant, check oil and some other one I can't read.

 

i have seen 3 cars with it and none of the work all lx, must be a GT thing

 

ah ok i just got it ...they don't have that in the 90+ models with the bigger steering wheel. all those warning lights are between the speedo and tach.
