Just finished sleeper project
I've been lurking here for months getting info for my latest kid's project. My 17 year old songot an 82 Fairmont from his grandfather with 22,000 original miles! Unfortunately, it wasa 4 door with a 2.3 smog motor. This thing took a full mile to get up to highway speed! It wasn't long before he was asking "Dad, can't you make this thing faster". That didn't last long. I picked up a 93 5.0L HO motor from a tbird. This has the same intake as the 94-95 stang. We tore down and rebuilt the whole thing. New Clevite bearings, High volume oil pump from Summit. I had the stock heads redone. A new Ford Cam with timing chain and gears. All new Felpro gaskets and seals. It's got a 70mm Ford MAS on it. Behind it is an AOD with a shift kit. Other than that, it's a stock GT under it's skin. As you may or may not know, the Fairmont is the starting point for the fox mustangs. They were all built off of this platform. I was able to do the swap using all mustang parts. Still need to do something about the 7.5 rear end, but at least he won't hurt the drivetrain too much with the 195/14's on it. It smokes the tires at will! Nobody sees this thing coming. It still looks like the day he drove it home from his grandfather's house. It makes traffic light situations a lot of fun! This site, as well as others has been a great help getting thiscar done. I didn't know anything about the Ford small block when I started, but I feel like I know it pretty well now. Here's some pics of the project.

RE: Just finished sleeper project
I'm not sure about the horsepower. Whatever a stock GT puts out I suppose. The car is really light though. 2800lbs. I think that's about 500 lbs lighter than a late 90's stang. Aluminum bumpers etc.
Remember this was built during the fuel crunch. I remember thinking at the time that I'd never see another V8 muscle car out of Detroit.
