Default GT40 crate motor for my 84 gt


im in the middle of rebuilding my 84 gt i just got the transmission done and the motor will be next my dad wants me to get a GT40 crate motor could i carb that motor? btw right now i have CFI which i plan on switching to carb soon......and if there is any cheaper ways to build i reliable 300-350 hp motor budget is around3grand but i would love to spend lessplease let me know what are some good set ups thanks for your help[/align]

you could save some money by buying reman heads from autozone for a 96 explorer 5.0, they are GT40 heads, then get yourself a cam, edelbrock intake, and a nice carb. less than $1500 you'll be running. a GT40 motor is a \regular stock bottom end. no point in buying a crate motor unless your block is split.

yeah...but crates are so much easier..just have to put your accesories on and install...no need for cams and new heads..you do pay that premium in price though...

If he wanted to stay as cheap as possible, wouldn't it be better to junkyard or buy the heads used and have a machine shop clean them up real nice?

1) afr heads 1300
2) 1.6 rockers300
3)x303 cam 250
4) pushrods 50
5) junkyard 5.0 block 200
6) junkyard explorer intake 100
7 24 lb imjectors300
total 2500

and u will have the same if not slightly more hp than the gt40 crate without the cost

yea the motor has been replaced in the car i dont know how old it is but its a blue block so i now its old as hell and prolly sandcast pistons but i could get block at pull a part for under $100
