well i went to go take my car to get some pics and on the way back i got onto it a little bit and all of a sudden it noes dived and started spitting and sputtering and it backfired through the exhaust and now its doing it all the time when it gets above 2500 rpm's but not everytime man i need more help now than ever please somebody give me an idea whats wrong maybe a bad coil or something o yeah it will clear out on its on if i let off the gas and just let it try to idle

I'm just wondering, it sounds like a timing problem. Two possibilities that come to mind are timing chain jumped a tooth, or cross firing in the distributer cap. Cap can be checked by trying a new cap. I don't know of any way to confirm a jumped tooth other than pulling the timing cover.

Also another thing might be the o2's or maybe a vaccumm line got pulled off or is leaking. But hope all goes well.

How old are your spark plug wires?

Sometimes at night, if you have old wires, you can see sparks arcing from one wire to another (or to a metal part) when you open the throttle quickly.

ok i had a problem like this when i installed my spark plugs. i torqued them down to tight and the pistons hit the plugs which closed the gap on the plug and caused 4 cylinders to misfire. the way it sounded was just like you described. check your plugs and wires.

also check your fuel pump, it may be dying on you which causes you to run lean. that and get a new fuel filter and if you have an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator, check what pressure its at. this definately sounds like a fuel delivery and/or ignition problem.

you can spray the dist. cap and plug wires at night with windex to see if you have cracks
