I believe the stock exhaust pipe is 2 1/4".

stock headers are pinched where they meet the head meaning they dont even flow the size they appear to look.

this is how ford got away with low emission ratings. a full exhaust on a stang is known to open up anywhere from 10-20rwhp
Not to mention the 4 Catalitic converters

Anyway to answere your question, I was able to feel a big differnce when I switched to full exhaust. I love my exhaust system: BBK Equal Lenght Shorties, Off Road H pipe, Flowmaster Mufflers.
