Default Temp guage

OK, so I have been having trouble with my car;s temp lately. Today I put in a 180* thermostat and burper the system, and then driving back to school the temp guage was all over the place. Would change 100* in two seconds. I tested the thermo before I installed it and it was working right at 180*. Is there anyway to test the guage itself, or should I just replace it?? any other ideas for the problem??? Would just getting an autometer guage and not worry about it be a good solution????

sounds like maybe a sending unit, only about 10 bucks and alot easier to change. if that dont do it go to an afermarket gauge and a nice a/c vent pod along with oil press or something

most likely the sending unit.....its like a little screw almost....to the right on the intake manifold.....mine wasnt working at all and i got a new sending unit and it worked fine.....smart idea with the 180 thermo....but i got an aftermarket gauge too.....the mechanical kind....i dont trust the mustang gauges and the temp is something i want to be accurate.....plus it might look cool to add another gauge to ur ride

Thats what I was thinking, but thesenderthey gave me doesn;t look like it would fit anywhere up there. I am thinking they might have given me the wrong part (cuz thats never happened before). Can anyone snap a pic of the area theirs is in, and give me a break down. I hate to sound like an idiot, but this is being a bigger problem then I thought it would.
