Default Solid Engine Mounts

Do you guys recomend installing these? My stock ones are blown and I want to be able to feel the rummble of the V8. I heard that the solid mounts can be a real mother to install due to the fact that they dont flex, is this true? And were can I find them?

Isn't there a chance that it can damage the frame or the engine itself? I would think that allowing something that moves and vibrates so much a little room to flex would be a good thing...

Solid motor mounts for Mustangs are in the catalogs of Jeg's and Summit. Both take phone, mail, and internet orders, ship worldwide.

solid mounts aren't all that hard to install but you do have to jack up the engine a bit to get the old ones out and install the new ones. some of the solid mounts will also raise the engine up just a little, about 1/2", so you need to make sure you have sufficient hood clearance too.
I don't really recommend solid mounts for street use. They let way to much vibration from the engine get through into the chassis which can have bad effects on the driver like fatigue or falling asleep on long trips. Lots of auto, truck, and airplane manufacturers have spent millions of dollars studying vibration and the effects of it on the operator of the vehicle they are building and they do lots of design work to reduce the amount of vibration getting through to the operator because just like noise, vibration can induce stress in the human body leading to fatigue and loss of attention while operating the vehicle. So if you do a lot of long distance driving, I would not go with solid mounts. Like vfast said, you can get ones with a more high performance elastomer in them that are much harder to tear apart under hard acceleration or you could install a torque limiting strap which will let the engine twist over some but not far enough to tear the mounts.
In my drag car, I used these solid mounts from Moroso and they went in fine with only a few cuss words needed.

Energy Suspension makes high performance motor mounts using urethane elastomers, look for part number ENE-41122 at www.brothersperformance.com for $129.99
you could also go for this torque link from Competition Engineering
http://www.competitionengineering.co...?CatCode=10029
it's designed with quick release pins so you can install it at the track and remove it for the drive home. it's also available at summit racing http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...-4010&x=22&y=8 for less than $60.
hope this helps you out there 88PatrolCar!

Solid motor mounts are for off-road, racing use ONLY. Even if you do use them on a race car you still use an OE type trans mount mount.
There is A LOT of vibration that is put into the car with these things and as a part that improves the E.T. or anything they are probably worth nothing........
