Ford OEM Gears.....

Ford OEM Gears.....
I wanted to know if anyone has used the Ford OEM gears from say a ford F150 or Explorer to put in their Mustang? I have an '89 GT, and I have been offered some 3.73 gears out of a Ford Explorer 8.8" rear end for dirt cheap. I figure since they are original Ford gears they should fit perfectly, but I just wanted to know for my own piece of mind if anybody has used these type of gears out of a Ford truck/Explorer? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

They should fit just fine. It's the same ring gear and spline count. Nevertheless when putting a different type of gears or not, you always shim them to fit to get the right backlash.

ORIGINAL: roundman
I used a set of FRPP 3.73 gears in mine and they worked just fine both at the track and on the street too. They can't compare with the 4.57 gears I've got back there now though!

I could but then I would be stuck running only the 1/8 mile too! Although my car is more consistent to the 1/8 mile, I equate running the 1/8 mile to premature ejaculation! Just when it starts feeling really good, the game is over! bwhahahahahahaha
