Default coolant problem

Hey there, a friend of mine is looking at a 93 5.0. The selleronlywants 3,000 for it because it has a coolant problem. Is this something he should stay away from (crack in theblock)or is it a common problem for these cars to leak from the radiator or a hose or what-not?

well it all depends on what kind of coolant problem it is? is it running hot? gauge, t stat, rad, fluid, or is it motor related? electric fan or clutch fan? need more details...

He told me the guy has no idea. The owner never took it to a shop or anything to check it out. He said one of the heads rattle though.

Sorry, the guys over 100 miles away and I haven't asked him about that. But like I said, what are the chances theres a crack in the block? and if it weren't that, would it be a costly job to fix?

Run away now...guys who can't diagnose serious problems tend to continue to drive the cars with the result being you purchasing a significant and likely pricey problem. I don't like buying 'performance' cars from people who are not mechanically able and especially unseen. That 3000 could end up just the begining of the story.
