RE: looking for a nice rough idle
1 5/8 headers with off road h pipe 2.5" exaust = LOUD to get a rough idle youll need to pick a cam with a decent amout of lift but most inportant in a rough idle is the duration so youll be looking for CAM with a lot of duration.

RE: looking for a nice rough idle
i just put new pipes on from the stock headers to the mufflers leaving out the cats, i was thinking some headers with 2.5 pipe to some super 40 mufflers? whats this h pipe do.. does it really make much of a difference. how big of lift would u suggest.. is there too much you should have for a mainly stock 5.0 ? i was thinking somewhere around the 440 mark? would that give me the nice idle? and duration.. dont know much about it how high should i be looking for?

RE: looking for a nice rough idle
WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT MY 5.0 IT HAD AN OFF ROAD H PIPE AND NO CATS, NO KIDDING AT ALMOST EVERY STOP LIGHT SOMEONE WOULD ASK IF I HAD A CAM OR THE WOULD COMPLIMENT ME. I MEAN IT WAS FUN BUT I LIVE IN THE CITY AND THE COPS MADE NOTICE TOO SO I GOT AN X PIPE WITH CATS AND THATS FINE FOR ME, STILL SOUNDS GOOD JUST DOESNT ATTRACT THE NEGATIVE ATTENTION FROM THE FUZZ.

the centerline and overlap play a big role on lope.....me I like the biggest cam with minimal lope that works for my combo...nothing like a quite car putting 10 car length on ya and it will have to wondering while you scratch your ****L*

Seriously though, if you're going to change your cam, pick a cam that works in your engine's power band. The most common mistake engine builders make is over-camming their engine. Yeah it sounds bitchin', but what's the point of that nice powerful sound if it's so far outside your power band your car is a total dog off the line, and you have to give a little throttle just so it will idle? The Ford E303 cam has a duration of 280 or 282 I believe which will add a nice chop, but it's not overkill for a near stock 5.0. If you want to go bigger, get an intake and some heads that will compliment your cam nicely and give you the best power.
