electric choke

electric choke
i have an 85 mustang gt, with the holley 4180 carburetor. i ran my car with the air cleaner off and noticed that my choke plate hardly opens at all after starting. it gets nowhere near a vertical position. if i had to guess it opens about a quarter of an inch. i have read that this means i will probably run very rich if i do not fix this. i put the automatic choke into the oven for a little to make sure it expands, and it does. i checked that the wire running to the choke was plugged in and had no problems visually.
is there some sort of an adjustment that needs to be made to allow the electric choke to fully open the choke plate? also, the wire is cut to the throttle positioner solenoid, i'm not sure if that has any sort of connection to the wire going to the automatic choke.
any help would be appreciated.

RE: electric choke
First you have to check to see there is voltage to the choke wire. If there is, Then you need to check the tension for the setting on the choke spring. If it is too tight, the choke will not open all the way. If there's no voltage, you need to find out why.
