Had the same thing happen in my 95 GT, I had bought a new alternator and the day after it was put on my battery gauge flipped out, they had to replace the alternator and its been fine since, good thing there is a lifetime warranty on my alt. Hope this helps you.

how does an alternator going bad make my battery freak out like that? i would think it wouldnt want to charge at all if it was going bad.

sounds like a bearing problem with the pulley. did you slam the alt down on the pulley during the rebuild?

uh no...there is kind of a weird noise during idle. i think it might be the alt pully i had the same sound on my 98 mustang. it sounded like a grinding of rocks as it rotates along with a slight whine....does that sound about right? are you pretty sure its the alternator because i had a friend suggest maybe a voltage regulator is bad. what do you think?
