Its a brand new "pretty much" clutch.....wtf does that mean? Either its brand new or its not.
As was said, that car does not have a hydraulic clutch, therefore you cannot bleed it. You can adjust the cable, but no bleeding.

Bleed the clutch, then go from there. It will probably at least help, especially if he just put it in. Sometimes it takes a few tries to get all the air out. Pump it, then hold it while a friend loosens the valve to release the air and tightens it back up.

tell your friend not to ***** foot the clutch on hills and rev it up and dump it when he puts a new one in it will save on the life of the new clutch
