correct thing to do is get it dynoed and find out when you start dropping power and shift right when the power starts to fall...

I shift around 5300

Yep i shift around 5300-5500.......I have a 5 speed also.

i think it stock but not for sure cause the guy i got it from owns a garge and he tows cars in from the interstate and he didnt have a title for the car so he told me i could take what ever i wanted off it and i took the motor and the only thing i know has been done to it is the heads

It really depends on what you have done to the car. On a stock 89 5.0 peak power is high 4k rpms or low 5.
