Default help with stripped thread

today i was taking off my x-pipe to go get smogged. while i was on the last header flange it would not come out so after forcing it i look at the bolt and the top is all shiney and flat no more threads. that wouldnt of been a big deal but then i look at theheader where the bolt screws into and it looks the same no threads just a mangeled mess and now i cant get the new stud back in it just strips out, will i be able to just re-thread it. any ideas or info would be great cause ive never done it before. also its not the stock headers or i would just get new ones. thanks

Default RE: help with stripped thread

you need a tap & die set, and rethread both with the proper size.

well if i understood your story correctly here.. you have aftermarket headers and i guess they have studs in them? i would say cut the studs off with a saw zaw or something, and then drill the rest of the bolt out and put a bolt in to replace it. you will need a bolt, nut, and a prolly 3 washers that are large enough to not go through the holes.

just my $.02
