Default 351c or 351w HELP

hello everyone im in the process of building a street stang with a little power, and i want to know which engine will be best if all they had were ported heads, intake, carb, cam, and exhaust.. i can get a 1972 351 cleveland with a 2barrel on it but i would change that along with the other stuff mentioned or i could get a 1983 351 windsor and do the same things to the engine....both cost 100 dollars a piece so it wouldnt matter either way on the price...someone please help me...which is better?which is easier to put in the stang?
thanks ,tyler

Grab the Windsor. Clevelands are nice, but there are a lot of variables that can be screwed up. Windsor is a good build anyway

+1 I think the Windsor would be the way to go. Let me know how it goes as you make progress. I'm currently also building a 351W for my 86 GT.

C cleveland with the 2 barrel heads (and a 4 barrel intake/carb) would smoke a 351w 4bbl (even with gt-40 heads) BUT they are bigger in size, heavier, and require more work to get it properly installed in your car.

The windsors seem to be more durable in the long run and would be an easier installation and your car would still handle half way decent

Never underestimate a Cleveland, a few simple mods that cost little and they are as reliable as any Windsor. Main problem is oiling, they tend to pump too much to the top end, resulting in bearing failure down under. When you are building the motor, put the Moroso oil restrictors in(25 bucks). If you plan really high revs(6500-7500), put an external line that pumps oil from top end, to bottom(25 bucks). These motor run to 10k rpm but require a few more mods which are not as cheap and require a smart builder. Drop a set of CHI heads(3V) which are around 1300 bucks, good carb/intake and quality headers and you have a monster. Read about the last few engine master challenges, lots of Clevelands/Clevors in the top ten and outright winners. That being said, I built my 302 because I could not find a 351 roller block. Had I the knowledge about Clevelands back then, I would have built a Cleveland hands down. Purchased a 351C for cheap and am slowly redoing it for a future project, I'm hoping to drop my 302 in over the next few days.

My personal opinion is to go with a Cleveland. More work, but it would be worth it in the end.

The cleveland is cooler but the Windsor will be a MUCH easier swap and build

Drop a set of CHI heads(3V)
on a windsor block is really how you end up with a sick *** motor

the cleve will run circles around a windsor all out for both but the w is the way for u to go. honestly if u have to ask which one to go with than a windsor will be all u need.
this is the best way of describing the comparison between both
the windsor is the 350 of ford
and the cleveland is the ls1 of ford.
the cleve takes a lot of experience and kno how, which in this case judging by the way u have little asked u proabaly have little if no knowledge of a cleve. which means stick wit a windsor.
