Default 351w

guys i may have just scored a rebuilt 351w for 500 dollars. now im not 100 percent sure if its a roller block so for now lets assume its not. would that be worth it. the mileage is very little and was runnin when it was takin out. what do u all think?
and what is needed for the roller conversion?
also i asked this in the 351 section but noone answered, is anyone or has anyone run the trick flow stage 3 cam in their blocks? and if so how did it run?

its worth 10 bucks for intake gaskets to find out if its roller or not isnt it? and correct me if im wrong, but i dont think your gonna be able to use any "stage 3" cam with stock springs, and even with better springs is probably overkill for stock heads (and im pretty sure you didnt luck out and score a lightning motor with the gt-40's)

i wasnt plannin on the stock springs or heads. this was gonna be a sick build something not very streetable at all. and i kno i didnt get a lighting motor but i figured a normal 351w goes for around 2-300 dollars around here and the rebuild kit is about 600 or so dollars so i was just wondering what u alll thought?

how many miles ago was the rebuild? was it stock? if so, chances are is has cast pistons and cast rings too. thats how OEM rebuilds roll, and how machine shops can actually make money and stay in business.

if the blocks not roller, you can use retrofit lifters anyways (or drill and tap the two holes in the valley and install a plate to hold them down)

no worries, think CUSTOM lol

now, go slap some 3v aluminum cleveland heads on there and make a monster!!!

na i dont have the time for that i think i might stick some trick flow R's and that cam and an eddy intake with a holley carb. its so simple but the clevor is not out of the question yet. so would any nearby machine shop be able to drill the wholes for the roller conversion? cause im afraid to **** **** up.

Doing this REQUIRES the use of a reduced base circle cam. This will *work* but is not advisable for the kind of motor being discussed here.

If the motor is not a ROLLER block, then you need to get the $475 Hyd Roller conversion lifters, or switch to flat tappets or solid rollers.

I suggest sticking with the hyd rollers, but that is just my personal preference.

Pull the intake to find out for sure what the block is.
First, post the casting number found near where the starter would be. that will help narrow it down...

I would think a custom cam would do better than the TF 3, especially in a carb'd motor.
