Default RE: air/fuel and wideband o2

Facotry mustang 5.0's use a narrow band exhaust gas oxygen sensor. By narrow band they mean it is only acurate at the stochiometric, or 14.7:1 (neither rich or lean.) It will show rich and lean but is inaccurate in these areas so it can only give an indication and not an actual fuel/air ratio. Wideband ego sensors are not compatible with a mustang ecu but you can use them with an aftermarket meter or gauge if you weld in another ego bung into the exhaust. Widebands will give you an actual air/fuel ratio and are much more acurate. As far as reading a narrow band gauge, you can read it anytime as long as the engine is warmed up. You do not need to be at WOT but this is where most tuning is usually done for racing. Basically you want to be in the rich side under WOT, around STOICH normal driving, and slightly LEAN under cruise. Really I don't think that narrow band gauges are worth it at all. You can tune an engine much better just by how it feels. The wideband is worth it if you really need it (i.e. supercharging, nitrous, turbo.) Any more questions? [sm=trust_me.gif]

what works best w/ a wide band sensor is to have a pms tuner or the equivalent so that you can add or subtract from your fuel tables, but they are very expensive, and if you dont have much done to your car you wouldnt even need it, what are your mods?
