Default Emissions

What up guys, I have a stock 5.0 with just an ignition system. I am having problems passing emissions. I have changed everything, put new cats, plugs, wires, oil, rotor. At first I did not pass the hydrocarbons test at idle. I decided to adjust the timing about 2 degress up and raised the idle to about 1350 rpm. I went back and passed the hydrocarbons but did not pass the CO at idle and under cruise. The CO jumped up like crazy. Could it be becuase I advanced the timing a little. I have heard that retarding the timing can help with the HC's but it might effect the CO. It did smoke a little (white) on left pipe before installing the cats when punching the gas, maybe valves. Any ideas would help, I am running without tags right now .

high hydrocarbons is usually a sign of a week ignition system. how are your plugs, cap and rotor? when you say all you have is an ignition system....what exactly do you have?

if you really have a stock 5.0 it should be easy to pass your emissions, here's how. first put your timing back to like 10 or elen degrees, and your idle back to 700rpm. then put high grade gas in the tank and they sell (at auto parts stores) a bottle of some stuff to help pass emissions use it. next thing if you haven't replaced them yet take the oxygen sensors out and replace if neccessary they are vital to passing e-check. and when you go to get the check done make sure the engine is nice and warm. so if you have to drive it hard before you get to the e-check. good luck

that white smoke that you are talking about sounds like a head gasket. Unless it is smoking alot i would say wait till you want to do the heads or you start to notice changes in your engine (bad ones)
