whats the biggest kit available these days? and does that kit have oil rings intersecting the wrist pin?
I'm pretty sure new piston desgins for 347 stroker kits have done
away with the wrist pin cutting into bottom ring.

3.47" stroke crank with 2.100" journal, 5.4" rod w/ 2.00" journal, 1.050" compression height piston. Turn the crank journal down to 2.00" You will end up with 3.5" stroke, 5.4" rod = 357" motor with only a .030 overbore. This won't come in a kit though...yet.

so since a 351 is the way to go. how do i go about deciding which one to do? is it always best to go with the biggest displacement?

Not necessarily. Like the 302's, block integrity is compromised with excess displacement. You can get plenty of cubes out of a 351 though.

95 viper, your right - but actually the 289 blocks have shorter cylinder sleeves so they arent as good of candidates to stroke (but technically you could drop any 302 based stroker kit into a 289 block)

fullauto - i hadnt even thought about offset grinding on the crank, im surprized no kits are out for that yet.

btw, you can also get a 3.5 stroke by using a 351C crank. the main and rod journal spacing is the same, but it takes a hellofa lot of grinding on the counterweights and then a decent amount of rebalacing. we did this in the shop for a boss 302 we built to run at the local race track. (a REAL boss 302 block and heads too, no conversion stuff). we had ferrea custom make us smaller valves so we would be legel for the race class, and had tucker valve seat company make us custom seats for the smaller valves to work, they were tapered on the I.D. to keep the port flow smooth as possible. also had 8 sleeves installed (bonehead move #1... fuggin stupid shop owner) with a crazy huge overbore (.080 or .125 i cant remember) and used block cement in the bottom of the motor. this is where things got messed up. we only wanted to use a little cement and the shop owner in his infinate lack of wisdom wanted way too much.

we ran the motor during practice and was mopping the floor with every other car on the track....... until it got too hot and decided to grenade all over the track. ruined the block, and did serious damage to one head. i literally wanted to cry, being thte only "ford guy" in the shop.

it was a crazy *** build though, and goes to show what kinda wild stuff can be done when you step into uncharted territory

if you want to stick with the 302 block..find an older block from the 60's or 70's they have a higher nickel content.....

how much would it cost to do something like that? as far as the parts and machine work?
