I have the 23-tooth with my 3.73s and it made a big difference I would imagine that the tranny does have something to do with it too. I have the stock tranny...so the 23 worked good.

To be honest, it was fun when I was doing 90mph and it said 140mph! Thrill your friends!! Keep in the stock one!! Just Kidding...it will rack on those miles in no time

If you have a 5sp and are going the 23 tooth route, you should have the white one, not the black. The black is a 23 tooth for an auto. That's what I've found when doing research on it.

23 tooth is correct

according to steeda.com you use the 23 tooth gear for 3.55, 3.73, and 4.10
please tell me how one gear is the proper correction for 3 different ratio's

I think someone doesnt know what they are talking about
Yeah, it's kinda screwy....If you have the green 8-tooth drive gear, the 23-tooth white driven gear is the most accurate match, but still does not mesh up 100% correctly and will wear prematurely. There is no other driven gear for gears above (technically, below) that, so most places recommend the same gear b/c it is more accurate than anything else, although it won't be correct.

The best option is to change your drive gear, located on the tailshaft to a 6 or 7-tooth gear. 86 or 87-90 T5's used the yellow 7-tooth drive gear, but they switched to the green 8-tooth drive gear after that (timeframe may not be 100%, but you get the idea).

wildsurfer92, take a flashlight and look up in the hole your speed sensor came out of. The drive gear is right inside...you can't miss it. When you figure out what color your drive gear is, go from there. If it's green, the 23-tooth white gear is your best option. If it's yellow, you'll want the 20-tooth black gear.

BTW, the reason the 23-tooth white gear doesn't work correctly is b/c it was originally a Dodge gear, not Ford.
