murphy, you really got no clue lol...... but yeah 373's were an option as well 3.55's... you can go to the dealer and tell them you want to buy a stang with a certin gear ratio and you bet your *** they'll customize it for you... but you should do some google searching, i have spent my time on google in the past and im pretty sure me and roundman are pretty much right.... and i'd say your car wasnt stock when you get it, i'd say if you had a car with t5 and it had 273's then someone did a swap.. when i bought my car a while back it came stock with t5, but had 2.73's, but ONLY because the guy who had it before me got it outa an auto, even he told me that
Well...I also have an 88gt T-5 and that has 2:73 gears. I don't think the person before me swapped 3:08's for 2:73"s
I NEVER heard of either 3:55 or 3:73 gears being an option for the '87-93 mustangs. The highest optional gear ration you could get was the 3:27 gears that was offered in the AOD cars.
If I'm wrong then please show mw the proof.

not exactly true either due to the damn CAFE federal law regarding fleet mileage. and also emission controls too. some dealers won't change rear gears for you because they claim it affect the emissions and it's against the law for them to do anything to a car that effects the emissions of the vehicle from the stock set-up. big crock of doo-doo if you ask me!

Different gear ratios effect emissions....I didn't know that.

i figured you could get any order custom... gf's dad bought a hemi truck and had them customize it with 3.90's or somethin like that... and around here (santa rosa cali) i know of a few people who bought new gt's and got them brand new with 3.73's (custom order)

Not at idle, but at highway speeds the engine turns slightly more rpms with lower gears and thus puts out more emissions per mile than the same engine with higher gears, so yes it does affect the emissions, which is the line the dealer gave me about not changing the gears since it affect emissions. maybe if I had special ordered the car, I could have got the 3.73 gears instead of the 2.73's, but at the time I bought it I didn't know as much as I do now about the gearing or I might have special ordered one rather than take one off the lot like I did.

all i know is that the 87-93 stangs had an option at the dealer for 3.55's and im not sure about the rest of the ratios. My buddy has a stick 92 GT and he said his ratio would have been 2.73's if he didnt ask for the 3.55's his words...
