First off the 93 cobra has a T-5Z which is rated at 330 ft/Ib of torque when the regular T-5 w/c is 265. it also has a 2.95 first gear instead of 3.35, and the O'D is .64 instead of .68. Its great for 3.73 or 4.10 gears, you get a little more out of first. I paid $1300 for that tranny new. There is a lot of money worth of stuff I would say if you can get all that for a G or less jump on it its almost 2500 worth of stuff new. I would pay no more than 1500 but i don't know how many miles are on the tranny
That is incorrect. The 93 Cobra had a WC T5 w/ a few tweaks. It had the same gear ratios, tapered input shaft bearing (IIRC), steel bearing retainer, and another thing or 2. The Zspec came out around the same time but was not stock in the Cobra.

You have to disassemble most of it to look at any internals. I don't think I'd pay more than $1k for that whole setup, but it's hard for me to judge b/c I got my Z spec used for $100 and had it rebuilt w/ an all steel bearing retainer for pretty cheap.

^^^Unless he's buying a Z-spec, not a Cobra tranny, that won't do him any good.

The "Z" Spec T-5
In 1993 Ford started offering a new service unit to the motorsport crowd. The "Z" spec T-5 (Ford part number 7003Z, also sometimes referred to as "World Class T-5". Most folks, associate the term "World Class" as meaning the best, however world class T-5 were introduced in 1985 as stated ealier. The T-5z is a 1993 Cobra T-5 with 2.95 first gear set and .63 over drive. It has the best of everything. Hardened gears, short throw factory shifter, steel front bearing retainer, and tapered output shaft bearing ands a seven tooth speedometer gear. Best of all it has a torque rating of 330ft/lbs based on 100,000 mile usage. The stock T-5Z can handle up to 450 hp when not drag raced.

ok... so does anyone have a link to tell me what numbers designate what tranny. When i go and check it out i want to know exactly what im buying, because this is a big investment for me and if i spend more than its worth i will not be happy. I also dont want to look like an idiot and just believe everything he says and then pay what he asks because he says its a cobra trans when its not. I doubt it is this z-spec trans you are talking about.

Print this out and take it w/ you.... If the tag isn't on the tranny, it won't do you much good. The 1st column is the last 3 digits of the tag ID. IF it's correct, it will tell you what you're getting.

thanks for the numbers, they should help to make sure its what they say it is. Ok next question. I know the driveshaft will work, but do i have to do any modifications to the car to make it manual? I know how to connect everything up, but is the hole already in the firewall for the clutch cable, and do i need special brackets for the quadrant and the trans? Also will my aod crossmember work? Anything else that i might need to know would be helpful.

thanks
nate
