Default breather caps???

whats the deal with these breather caps for the valve covers??? what do they do, and why are there "open" and "closed" ones??? i saw a guy at a carshow with one on his 5.0, and i hadn't the slightest idea what purpose it had and if he gained any power from it.

Default RE: breather caps???

they vent crankcase pressure.

in stock form your PCV system does this.
but on high performance engines it cant keep up alot of the time.
so you cap it off and put two open breathers to vent to
outside air.
