Default changing oil pump

do I need to put some oil in it before I bolt it up and any other trick welcome

I'am puting the moter in a four cylinder right know and the moter is out

yah, run some oil through it by turning the shaft. then dry the gasket spots and install it.

I thought so...although I do not think that my oil pump is shot...with 108k miles...I am sure that it can use a replacment.

I just had the oil pan off and called the part store and for $20 I changed it

<~ recommends using a hardened oil pump driveshaft when installing a new pump in a small block ford. those like to twist, especially if you run a HV or HP pump. they are less than 20 bucks too, so its cheap insurance.

rule of thumb is if your rebuilding a stock or slightly modified 302 the two most important things to upgrade is the oil driveshaft and the 5/16 rod bolts (to stronger 5/16 rod bolts, not going bigger to a 3/8 bolt)
