mine required a huge rubber mallot, which i didnt have, so I used a brick wrapped in an old towel

I am assuming this is in reference to the stock intake. You may have to persuade it a bit. With the years of gunk and varnish acting like cement plus the upper to lower gasket that has seen many heat cycles, they can be a bitch to remove. Get a rubber mallet and hit it all around the edges. Some WD40 will help also. Once you get a loose side, use a flat blade screwdiver as a wedge.
