Default Mixed Responses?

I've been reading through the search results about tranny fluid, and i still have a few questions.

1. Should i change it? Someone said it's bad for a tranny that's never been flushed, and that it will mess stuff up if it hasn't been done regularly. The problem is, i have no idea if it's ever been done because i haven't always owned the car.

2. Should i use the Royal Purple Syncromax since it's a 5-speed, or use the atf even though it's manual (which makes no sense to me).

You don't need the Synthetic, but you can use it. Just get regular ol ATF.

So you do use the automatic tranny fluid in a manual? Ok, thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help dimebag. I'm just trying to get an idea of what i should use if i get around to changing it out.Theshifting has beena little rough, and i figure if it's like any other fluid that was in the car when i got it, it's junk.

You can never change fluids too often, only not often enough

Yeah, i'm really hoping new fluid helps it. If it's the synchros, i willbe stuck with it for a while considering i don't really have the funds to rebuild the tranny. Good luck with your buddy's car.
