Default what causes this

my header at #1 and #8 cylinder are getting cherry red at high idle (1500 rpm) but when you idle it down to 900 to 1000 rpm it goes away. its not the timing so what else could it be and how do i fix it, also is it true that after a engine build with h/c/i you have to get a chip made.

your running lean in those 2 cylinders, i would suspect lower intake gasket problems.

just get it dyno tuned. as far as the gasket, maybe not tight enough, maybe too tight. maybe too much sealant(RTV), who knows. can't tell ya without lookin.

red headers does not mean lean... its actually rich. It means the fuel is actually burning in the exhaust instead of the cylinders

nope

wrong wrong... as soon as the exhaust valve opens and the burnt mixture begins to be pushed out, the exhaust charge will cool with the drop in pressure.

ask on a forum that knows whats up... like S B F T E C H.com
