Default Got a question on the Megasquirt II

I'm thinking about getting the megasquirt II sometime this summer. But I have a few questions as most of the info is about the first megasquirt.

With the megaquirt II do you need to by a mod kit to use the factory IAC? Also to use an electric fan?

Next, MAP vs MAF, its my understanding that with the MSII you can use the MAF instead of MAP, but more power is possible with the MAP. My problem is I go to school in the mountains (2000+ ft), but I am from the beach. Would the MAF be better due to change in altitude?

Thanx[/align]

You need to do a "mod" to the MSII in order to use the "Ford" IAC, the mod kit is like $7 and you install it as you build. You can control the fan with the IAC stepper circuits as is. I like the SD "map" better than MAF on a whole, I "think" you can run a MAF now with MSII but why, the only reason most people like the MAF better is that it responds to engine mods on its own to a degree, a SD system needs to be re-tuned after any appreciable mod...and that is why most people go to the MS anyway. Make a change, hook up the trusty laptop and tune for it. The only "hidden" thing I have found so far is that you REALLY need a wideband O2 sensor to tune much at all, most people have real problems trying to tune with a narrowband. So just figure that $200 (for the minimum system) into your budget as you go.

I am a relative newb to the MS world so perhaps someone with more experence will chime in.

O yea, the map sensor can be set to take an initial reading before start-up and unless you change altitude dramatically (drive up a mountain) before you stop/start the engine you will notice some difference. I have not heard anyone complain of this being a problem. However, the fix is to run dual map sensors and you have a "live" sample continuously, problem solved.

thanks that helps alot. I know a MAP sensor is better i was just unsure about altitude changes. Especially since I try to go home several times a month. So that is from sea level to 2000 ft.

Is it hard to run a dual MAP sensor?

Nope, not hard at all you just have to buy another or the "MAP Daddy" dual sensor....wires right up.
