Door Hinges on a 93
How long does it take to replace the pins? One of the bushings is coming apart bad. If you replaced them, what all did you do and how?Do the doors HAVE to come off? If they do, how doi get around theelectricals that go from the door to the body? This will be my first.
And where di you get the pins/bushings?I have some of those HELP packages from the parts store buti was hoping for something more stock looking.
Thanks.

RE: Door Hinges on a 93
I bought a set of pins from 50RESTO when I replaced mine. It was a PITA! especially the top one because there is not enough room for the pin to come the whole way out straight up. When I put it back together I ended up removing the hinge, but for more reasons than just reassembly. Mine were wore pretty bad and the new bushings were too sloppy in the hole. I welded the sides of the hole a little and redrilled them so the bushings did not spin. 50resto also has hinges if you don't have a welder but they are a little pricey. The electricals don't have to be disconnected just pull the rubber out from the body side and that should give you enough room to work. You have to pull the inner fender cover to access the bolts to remove the hinge and just set the door on a flood jack or blocks to keep it up somewhere near the right height. None of the kits look stock tho. The 50resto pins are longer and have a hirpin type clip to retain them. pretty cheesy IMO, but it is still better than the door not operating right

I did the pins on my crown vic and I purchased them from NAPA for $14.82. I removed the hinge bolt and left the door pulled away as far as I could resting on the jack. I then cut the pins with a Dremel tool and drove the pins out with a hammer and punch.

Thanks for the help.
If all goes well illhave my stepdad to help out. Hope im lucky that the pins arent so sloppy that i need welding done, something were both dreading. I checked 50resto for the pins and they are the same as parts store pins except the parts stores have no hairpin, but there is a hole for one. No bother, i have the pins/bushings already. Cheesy looking indeed. Looks mean a lot to me.
Took notice the stock pins are stamped a bit at the bottom, like a flare. Thinking that if i grind that bit off i could drive the pins out and reuse them? Just an idea.
And yes, hinges are pricey. Closet place here that i know has them is CJ Pony. Door side $31.95, body side $68.95. Ouch!
