Mine does the same. I was wonderin the same thing. My alt was even bad, it was only puttin out 6volts instead of 13volts. I replaced it yesterday with a nice $120 one and it didnt change.

the tach should be a wire on the coil and since u have that msd replacement one, maybe it never got hooked back up to the new coil

I bought a nice 90 amp one from baxter auto parts yesterday. I think my gauge is broke. I have alot of gauges to fix, that and my RPM gauge.
