Default gauges a screwed up HELP!

i just got some white face gauges for christmas and installed them. they were the kind where you just peel off the old faces and put new ones on. i removed the needles and completed the instalation, and when i repaced the needles i started the car to find out if everything still worked. i made sure to put the needle locations down and put the needles back into the same position when i reinstalled them. when i started the car almost none of them worked, or if they did they read incorectly. im gonna go play with them, but i guess my question is, is there some kind to trick involved in reseting the gauges that i dont kow about? is this gonna end up costing me shop time and money to fix?

I installed the same type gauges in my 89. If you push the needles too far down on the shaft, they will not move. Try to loosen them up a little.
