200 amp alternator
I will have a stereo system and I am going to run the electric fan and an ignition system of some sort. I am wondering if the 200 amp alternator is going to be too much, I found one on ebay for $132, btw, my factory alternator is on it's way out so I need to replace it any way. Let me know what you all think.

RE: 200 amp alternator
an alt. only makes as much power as it has to. if you run a 200amp alt, and the electrical system on needs 13amps, then the alt will only make 200amp. the rating on an alt is what the max its capable of, not what it puts out all the time. you will be fine

Thanks Lucky, I thought that was how it worked but I wanted to make definate sure I would not overheat or fry something else in the process. I would rather have more than enough than not enough.

i would imagine you are going with a 3g alt right? besure to upgrade to a 4g or thicker wire coming off the alt. i use a 2g on mine

where is your battery? if in the engine bay, i would run a 4g ground from the battery to the body, and from the same bolt, another 4g cable to the engine block. there is a very tiny ground wire just below the oil sender on the driver's side front of the motor. you can replace that with the 4g cable

RE: 200 amp alternator
you need a new stator plug, and at least a 4 guage wire for power and groung, do what lucky said in this post and you will be set. I am going with a 2 guage since I am using a 200 amp alternator. I have been there when the wires are too small, what a pita that can be. I am running several other electrical items after the alt. is installed as well.
