Default Gear swap then need new carrier

Im looking to change my rear end gears from 2.73 to 3.73 but I was told by someone since I have 2.73 I need to change the carrier as well. Is that true? I wanted to keep the old carrier untill I put in 30 spine axles in. So do I have to swap a new carrier in or can I use whats in there. Its a limited slip in there now.

the person who told you that must have misunderstood what you meant. If you were to install 31 spline gears, you would need a new carrier. And personally I think you should wait.

There is no point to pay to get your gears setup now, just to have to re-do the whole thing again when you get the new carrier and axles
